My 500 GB “My Passport” makes clicking/beeping sounds on occasion as I navigate through my files on the drive. Is this the premature death sound? I’ve only had it under 18 months. I can’t think of any time it could have fallen or gotten damaged in my travels. My MacBook Pro still recognizes it. I’m preparing for a software update on my laptop, but want to make sure this hard drive isn’t going to fail me in the process and lose all of my photos, music, movies, and documents. Suggestions/clarifications anyone?
Bearing in mind I am trying to recover my Passport, I would say do not risk it and get a new one if there are any noises that worry you. As far as I am concerned there should not be any noises other than standard low HDD humming and it is a matter of time before it dies on you… Wish I had backed up mine properly…
