I have a my passport hard that was working quite well, suddenly when I plugged it into PC, it started asking me to install driver “SES Driver” and it wasn’t shown any more in windows explorer or even disk management and this happened on different PCs except one PC which was the last one it worked on where it didn’t show in windows explorer but in disk management it appeared as “Disk1” - “Unknown” and “Unreadable”, I downloaded the drive from WD site and installed it but nothing changed.
Recently I installed WD “Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows” on a PC other than the one that detected it in disk mgmt as it started to have some issues with OS and the SW on this other PC detected the hard disk but with zero size as per the attached image
After that, the disk appeared in disk management as “Unknown” and “Not Initialized” and keeps asking to initialize the disk either as MBR or GPT as per the attached img
but I didn’t take this step as I’m afraid to lose the data on the hard as I don’t have full Bkp of them. I searched the internet and some people said that this step will cause loss of data and that I have to use any of the data recovery tools to recover the disk first. I tried “Recuva” , “Wondershare” , “PartitionGuru” and “EASEUS Data Recovery” but none of those detects the hard disk and I don’t know what to do so if any one could please help.
Hi, have you tried using a different USB cable? Other than that might mean that the drive is damaged somehow and you will need to contact a data recovery.
Yes I tried another cable for a working “My elements” external hard but nothing changed.
But if I tried to initialize the hard, will this clear all data?? and should I select MBR (the HD is 1 TB) .I was thinking if doing this could help me access the hard again and then I can try data recovery SWs since currently they couldn’t detect it.
I believe that the issue with my external hard is related to bad boot sector so could any one please advise if there is a way to fix the boot sector. I found a tool named “Test Disk” but I don’t know if this could help or safe to use.
I have the Sam e problem with two 2 TB WD Passport drives. My laptop does not recognize it I does not show up as “passport”, but as “local drive” and is completely inaccessible.
