My Passport Pro shows as software raid, not a hardware raid device

Hi,

I used the WD Utilities to create initially a Raid 0 device, it showed up as software raid in disk utility, so I deleted and created Raid 1, same again, shows up as 2 separate devices in a software raid 1 configuration, is this correct, I bought it with the expectation that the hardware would undertake the overhead of the raid management.

I am running Mac OS Sierra on an iMac with the passport pro on thunderbolt port.

As you are setting up RAID using WD utilities software so it will always show up as software RAID not hardware. Also, my passport pro drive has it’s own controller so setting up RAID on the drive will always show up as software RAID.

thanks for the response, so if I am incorrectly using WD Utilities, how do I set up a passport pro as a hardware raid device or was I sold the device under false pretences?

On a my passport pro device you can only setup a software raid not hardware.
