My WD passport external hard drive not detecting

I have a 500 GB Passport  external hard drive.When i connect to the computer, it is detected by the USB drive. But the drive letter is not shown and i can hear the cllicking sound when the drive try to read the files.I have lot of stuff inside and any body can help me on this? any chance for file recovery if the drive is defective?

What type of computer? desktop or laptop? 

1)Using control panel-> Device Manager to see if you can find it.

Me too. Running on w7.  when i connect it, the autoplay window doesn’t open. Disk manager says it’s working properly but clearly it isn’t.  My other passport has not issues.

clicking WD 2,5" drive that means dead heads, and its a physical failure. RMA your drive, or if data is important look for professional service provider. Do not power up the drive, or this will happen.
