MyBook 1TB not recognized by computer (possible physical damage)

Hello everyone, I’ve been using a Western Digtial TB drive for over a year and a half now, and by a stroke of unbelieveable bad luck this morning it fell about a foot to the ground, on my hardwood floor.  When I re inserted it, my computer said it was not recognized, thus leading me to believe that there is physical damage that has disabled the drive.  Does anyone know of the best data recovery places to take this, or if it’s possible to recover the data through cheaper software.  I can barely afford anything right now, so I need tofind the cheaspest possible way of getting all my 700 GB back  (aka a year of my life plus important projects that need to be completed soon)  I appreciate the help.

Thanks.

Hello,

Does the hard disk drive spin up? Making any noise?

Does the AC adapter jack port still looks good or broken?

If none of these are working, the only choice is to take  the drive apart.

Take just  the physical hard disk drive and connect it to the SATA port (of cause with SATA power) on the desktop computer to see if the drive is still working. If it work then you can transfer data to the internal drive.

If you have only a laptop, you have to look into buying this device   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153066&cm_re=external_enclosure_3.5_sata-_-17-153-066-_-Product   it would cost less than to hire a datarecovery professional.
