Hello,
I have had my MYBOOK lives for quite some time. I have a 1TB and 2TB. The 2TB is our family’s main storage and the 1TB is used to back up the 2TB via the “SAFEPOINTS” tab once a week. A month or so ago, the backup drive (1TB) started to go in and out of sleep pretty quickly. I rarely noticed the blue light on anymore. Now, just a week or so ago, the main drive (2TB) started doing the same thing. They take for ever to go into sleep and once they are there, they come out within minutes. Everything is turned off (DLNA, Twonky, Itunes, FTP, etc) except for remote and web access (which never caused a problem before). The only thing different about the network in the last week was I added a managed switch (TP-SG108E) so I could see if something on the network was causing it, but the problem was there before I added the switch.
When I log in via SSH, it shows like 0.7% CPU usage on both of them and nothing is really running (like the mediacrawler) that I have read so much about. They both have firmware 02.43.10 - 048 (6/22/2015). I do see apache2 and upnp_nas_device populate the list every few seconds.
I am not at all familiar with Unix (or whatever it is) so I don’t know how to decipher anything at all in these modes other than what I have googled.
I have found extensive posts on older firmware acting like this, but nothing recent and will no real answer other than its being worked on for a future firmware release.
These wake-ups almost act like the two drives are waking each other up, because even at night, when all the devices which have the ability to wake them are powered off, with the exception of our phones which have “My Cloud” installed.
Although it’s a steady green (only flickers once in awhile), they never used to do this. They would sleep until accessed (blue light).
Is there any solution to this? Is WDTony still around? Seemed he knew what was going on lol.
