Mybook model WD5000C032 driver needed for Windows 7

I have purchased a Windows 7 computer but when trying a back up to my old faithful My Book - it does not respond as it is not recognized.  Is it because I do not have a ‘driver’ for this hardware on my new computer?  I went to WD.com but can’t find anything for 64 bit OS and this product.

Hello,

Currently, we don’t have aditional drivers for this unit since is a plug and play drive, meaning that it worked with the drivers that use the USB ports on your computer.

As a recommendation, check on disk management to see if the drive is showing. Also on device manager to see if the drive is showing with a Yellow admiration mark.

You’re kidding right? I have all my documents from my old computer on my WD5000ME and it’s freaking useless?

can someone please tell me the voltage of the power supply that comes with the apollo d1u d1b

Make sure you are not using a cable longer than the one supplied and don’t connect through a hub. Try a port on the back. If this is a powered drive plug directly into the wall instead of a surge protector. Does the drive show in Disk Management and does it say anything like Raw? What OS was the old PC?

Thank you for your response.  It was very helpful.

Hello, I have this external drive and my laptop is not reading it. It is receiving power, green ring is lighted up, but it is not showing up as a drive under the computer pane. I checked device manager and it is showing a yellow asterick. It is saying that windows could not find a driver for it. When i search for a driver, I personally cannot find one either. So besides tearing into the enclosure and trying to read the drive via another device, is there no drivers for this thing? I have tried to get it working on both a windows 7 and windows 8 laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

I just had this happen to me.  What ended up working was unplugging the power source, waiting a few seconds and then plugging it back in again with the drive already connected to the computer with the USB cord.
