MyCloud Gen1 can't backup files and access Dashboard

Hello, everyone.

I’ve been around the forum trying to get a firmware downgrade since it has been impossible to work with my 3TB MyCloud. It was slow, laggy, Dashboard would take forever to appear.

Yesterday, I made a System Reset and since then I was never able to access the dashboard again or configure anything on the NAS for that matter.

In order to save the data I had in there, I disassembled the drive, hooked it up to a USB adapter and tried to copy everything from sdb4, where my data resides. After several failed tries due to getting stuck in a file or something like that, I now am able to see the folders structure, but once I try to open them, I can’t see any files and just get stuck on Lubuntu with the spinning wheel.

I’d appreciate any help on how to get the files out of the drive to start and replace the entire firmware and OS on the drive, since this one doesn’t properly work.

I’ve checked the disk health and everything comes back as OK. I can’t figure out what the problem may be at this time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I’m trying to make a image from the disk using Disks, but it’s giving me 9 months ETA time.

Any other way to perform this which may be faster? I can’t leave the PC on for 9 months.

It took 4 hours to mark 20 Mb of bad sectors. And I’ve connected to a Sata2 port directly on the PC to try to get things as fast as I could.

Ok. Had some development on the disk. I was able to retrieve my information from the disk, or most of it at least.

Now I’ve been trying to mark the bad sectors and was looking for an image to write to make it work out again.

I’m currently running

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=1M

to try to mark the sectors and have been all over the forum to try to get a working image, but I can’t seem to find a working link and a straight forward tutorial to make it work out again. I’ve seen many different ways of handling the same slightly similar problems, but would love to be able to get it straight from the start.

So, I have the disk connected through a sata connector to the pc, I’m able to see it as sda with several partitions and would like to try to revive it.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
