Mypassport 4TB unrecognized - solved WIN 7

I purchased a 4TB Mypassport to copy a customers files to. The files copied perfectly and I accessed them for two or three days without problem. On a trip to Europe, I accessed the drive on the flight over and the next morning, the drive is unrecognized by anything I plug it into.

I returned from my trip and on a whim switched the WD cable with one from a Samsung SSD external I have and the drive starts up perfectly. So, if your Mypassport’s light comes on and spins up, but is completely unrecognized by your PC/laptop, try swapping the cable.

I figured I would share my good fortune.

This might be the same for Mac’s too I would assume.

Cheers!

IS this a My Passport 4Tb Ultra? What’s the model number? (Don’t put the serial number on the forum.)

This is not an Ultra.

I hope this fix works for a bunch of different models as WD has to be shipping the same cables with different models.

I am betting they got a lame batch of cables from their supplier.
