I have several MyPassport drives and they all exhibit a slowdown during large file transfers. By large I mean 100+ GB. The slowdown occurs at random times but it usually takes some time to occur, maybe more than 50 or 60 GB. I’ve pasted an image of the Windows transfer dialog below - you can see the slowdown after 120 GB or so.
I also have occasional problems with the drive just stopping the transfer at random times; that is the bigger issue. When the stop occurs, it always does so some time after the slowdown. So my thinking is if I can figure out what’s causing the slowdown I might be able to figure out what’s causing the transfers to stop.
Is it possible the drive is overheating? It does get warm but I can still hold it just fine.
Any ideas here?
