N900 As a Switch Only?

The N900 has been a complete nightmare with $300 gone, countless hours lost troubleshooting and living on the phone with WD tech support (great techs bad product).  I’m on my third unit and I’ve officialy thrown in the towel and purchased an Airport Time Capsule.

Is it possible to use the N900 as just a switch?  I’d love to continue using the remote features of WD2GO and WD Photos.  I wish Apple would adopt those features for the ATC, maybe someday.  Until then if I can use it in “switch mode” and still access N900 then I can enjoy the reliability of the Apple Time Capsule’s wifi and remote features of the N900.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can.  I’m using mine as an access point / Switch only.

Admin → Device Mode → AP (Access Point) Mode.

That will change it from Router to Access Point.  That will disable DHCP, and change some other functions.  Then just use 1 of the 4 ports to connect to your other switch / router that supplies DHCP, and the other 3 ports are available to connect devices.

That did work.  I actually found that option but didn’t know to use a LAN port and not the WAN for connecting to the new router.  It works but unfortunately it disabled the remote functionality I was looking to keep.  Looks like I’m going back to the My Book World Edition I have, it uses Mionet for remote access for photos but not documents.  WD had a great idea with the N900 but couldn’t back it up with good H/W and S/W.  I need reliability more than remote access at this time.

Thanks for the help.
