NAS drive name change etc.?

Hi there,

I have recently upgraded to a new MyCloud Home NAS and have found the new interface rather difficult to use and understand compared to my previous drive I had used since about 2017 or so.
First of all I need to change the network access address to something more intelligible. Doing a net use at command prompt gives me the following info

Status Local Remote Network

         Z: \\WINDOWS-PC\My Cloud_ea0fcf459562e7a57911.......

I would like to change this horrible looking address to something intelligible so that I can map this on the Kodi application for network music access for playback amongst other things… Can somebody guide me on how to do this please ?

Also when setting up Kodi it asks me for a user and password for my NAS drive, where is this accessed and changed ?? On my previous older NAS this was easily found and changed, but on my new one it all seems to be well hidden somewhere and not easily accessed …

Any hint on how to perform the above changes to my new drive would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance, mike

If you display the rest of that it will show everybody that Z: is mapped by WD Discovery as a virtual network drive and not SMB. Kodi and perhaps 99% of network apps will not directly support the WD kddfs virtual drive. You’ll have to use the limited SMB network provided by the MCH.

Plex is an alternative approved by WDC that has shown some support for the MCH kddfs but in reality has not fully supported the MCH in about a year because of the difficulty of writing a secure Android media server app that can run on the MCH with functionality and stability. You can install Plex through the ‘Do More’ menu in the browser web app.
