Need assistance setting up nfs for streaming

I have a 2 tb WD external drive attached to my PC running xp. Using window shared folder to stream 1080p video currently to my wd tv live (3rd gen), but I am experiencing stuttering with playback. Trying to set up nfs using hanewin nfs server. I have the exports set up and even see that the wdtv is mounted, but I cannot access folders through windows shares on the wdtv. I was able to see the folders at one point, but even then the wdtv displayed “no media in folder” message. All my connections are wired and my router is a linksys e2000 running ddwrt firmware. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you’re using NFS instead of SMB (Windows share) you won’t see the folders through windows share. You need to add Linux shares from the media type. I don’t have any experience of Hanewin NFS so will assume you have set it up and set folder and file permissions to allow access.

On the WDTV

  1. On the WD TV, go in to Setup
  2. In Setup, go to Network Settings
  3. In Network Settings, select Enable Access to Linux Share Servers
  4. Once in the menu, turn the setting On
  5. Once done, go back to the main menu and select Videos, Music or Photos
  6. Select Content Source
  7. From the options select Network Shares
  8. Click on Linux Shares
  9. Check the IP address provided matches the IP of your PC
  10. Select the source and you should be able to play content

Hope this helps!

here’s a goog guide on how to set up hanewin for WD

http://mrlazy.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/how-to-setup-nfs-shares-on-wd-tv-using-hanewin/

but note, that was written for a much older device

the hanewin set up is the same

but what you do on WD is much easier

  1. enable linux shares in network settings

  2. select linux shares as source

Thanks for the assistance. I was able to get NFS files sharing up and running, but the there was stuttering during playback of 1080p over both my wired and wireless network. This occured during SAMBA sharing as well. After a lot of problem solving (and buying a new switch which I needed anyways) I was able to get the stuttering to stop. Turned out that the real issue was with the Samsung TV. Apparently samsung’s auto motion control (or something close to that name) was causing the issue. When turned on it would cause the video to stutter. Figured it was the network, but I was wrong. Odd that this feature on the TV could cause such a problem. If anyone with a samsung stumbles across this post and is experiencing stuttering try turning that off. Could be your problem too.
