Hi all i want to know whats the latest WD Media player on sale, I allready have the mini WD media player 1080p but it no longer has firmware updates so im stuck as most MKV files no longer play. I think its all the new codecs that they use it seems to be the 1080p big files 6-11 gb size, Im hooked up to an amp DTS and older files play no problem just the newer ones. So im thinking about getting the WD media live one but need some feedback about players before i buy one. And if any one knows if the live player will still have loads of new firmware releses or will they stop thae soon.
Thanks in advance…
The Live, Live+ and Live Hub are the current products, according to WD’s website. The Live Hub is the most recent of the three.
Thanks for speedy reply so what one the best ( In repect for playing latest MKVs) do you think i should get? Sorry to be a pain but i dont wanna get one and be stuck again LOL
It depends what’s “wrong” with your .mkv files.
If it’s just that they’ve got compression enabled in the headers and you’d rather buy a brand new player then re-mux them, then yes, all 3 will play .mkv files with compressed headers (the Live and Live Plus need firmware updates to do it, the Live Hub shipped with the patch already).
But, if your files won’t play because they use unsupported codecs, you may not have any better luck with the other players. They can only play back what the chip supports… if the streams inside the .mkv files are unsupported then they won’t play.
Oh… I see… the AmLogic 8613 won’t decode 1080p at all from what I see online.
Would seem to be a poor choice of format for your existing files, then.
The previous answer still stands… it depends what is in the 1080p files whether the 3 in the “Live” line will play them.
