Network again

The upgrade obviously messed up Playon. Where that problem belongs is open to debate…obviously.

IF the network implementaions was correct the WDTV should always connect to a Media server or a share.

Playon may not be DLNA certified so maybe WDTV gets a pass…although this is also a debate. SSDP is a mystery to me and maybe Playon does not implemnet it proprerly.

It worked …now it does not…

However when I have to go and clear the auto login and the login info randomly when time I need to log into to a network share and also have problems with shared folders on Win7 still I see an issue with the ijmplementation of networking.

I was rather impressed with the response on the network with the latest firmware…apart from the Playon issue…

and I was waiting for a fix for just that.

Now I am just back to waiting to see because I have network share issues again in that Win7 shares do not show where they did with the initial firmware upgrade.

Now…maybe it is another issue with Windows networking…I am open to that.

I am also aware of a multitude of  harwdare and sofware apps work quite well in spite of the ■■■■ that microsoft implements for networking so I have a mystery .

The network conectivity should be in fractions of a second. The error mesage shoukd be “share not available” …if  correct.

WD makes users wait as long as MS to be dissapointed.

Well, yes and no…  :)

I’ve helped PLENTY of people debug network issues where it turned on the WD was not at fault.

Yeah, the error messages are misleading sometime.

The WDTV appears to build a list of servers pretty quickly, but it does NOT update the list quickly.

If you try to access a PC that’s still in the list but has been turned off, it will sit there for 15 - 20 seconds trying to access it before it times out…
