I acquired a WD My Cloud unit from a friend. It had a new drive installed as the old drive had personal information and client info. The new drive, I assume requires software. Tech support told me the drive is faulty and that I need to buy a whole new unit from their store.
Is there a way that I can re-install whatever came on the original drive rather than buy a new one?
THe My CLoud single bay/drive stores the firmware on the hard drive itself. If you replace the My Cloud hard drive you need to perform an “unbrick” of the new hard drive to put the correct firmware version on it.
The single bay My Cloud has two different versions and the unbricking process is different for each version. People have had good luck using Fox_exe’s steps for unbricking when installing new hard drives in the single bay units…
