New firmware

Hello fellow Elements play owners

I like a lot of you here are slightly disappointed with some of the features on my elements play, originally before the first firmware came out i sent western digital an email requesting (demanding  ) that a new firmware be released with as many improvements to the problems cited here as possible, it was nice of them to release one but i was still underwhelmed.

So the reason i decided to write this post was to ask you to put forth as many corrections as you can think of to the problems with the Elements play, my intention when i have a list compiled is to bombard western digital with this email requesting new firmware with the improvements. So people throw down your ideas i’ll get the ball rolling

  • improve the speed of scrolling in menus

-improve subtitle support ie definite shading around font to make it more visible

  • solve the frame pull down thing ive read about here

  • improve hd playback no more juddering nearly 90% of my 720p videos judder

  • better thumbnail view layout

So guys please contribute with things that you know they can fix with firmware

Thanks Ro

Hi.

I often use my wd elements for listening music, conneting it with my home theater but, with the cuurent firmware, I must keep on also the TV. I would like to turn off the TV, once I have selected the music.

I have also problem to update the firmware, from 1.00.85 to 1.01.10.

Thanks.

Regards

You obviously can switch off your TV but then you would not be able to control your music. How would you propose getting round that?

Heheh… He has a point…

If you set up a long playlist, you don’t need to control anything;   one should expect it to continue audio tracks even if the display is off…

Come on people ideas, ideas stay on topic

Obviously if a problem can be overcome then there is no need for it to be incorporated into new firmware.

Eh?

One thing I’d like to see - on all models, not just the EP - is that when a new firmware version comes out, they update the manual with the changes.  For example, the release notes always say something like "fixed problem with x or improved handling of y, but this doesn’t tell you details.  If the manual were updated, we could refer to that to see what new features were available and how to get them.

You know, johnaduk, back when manuals were actually printed, your suggestion would be out of the question.

But, since the manuals are just .pdf files, it would seem fairly straight-forward to pop open Acrobat and do a few edits.  I’m with you.

“Great… you added this new feature… thanks… but, how do I actually use it??”

Here’s a contribution…

WD GIVE US FIRMWARE THAT INSTALLS.

There is a large number of us who can’t install the latest firmware release.

Updates - please bear in mind that I couldn’t install the last firmware so these may have been addresses.

  • Lip-sync issues on all file types

  • jittery mp4 playback (this is my preferred codec in Handbrake)

  • pdf viewer

  • ts playback (sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t)

  • make new folders, on the fly.

  • thumbnails (i think this was already mentioned) extremely necessary for ISO files.

  • flv playback

  • move option (I only have copy or delete)
