Hi TonyPh12345, is this firmware for Gen1 WD Elements Play?

Regards,

Well, sadly, as the file is called ElementsPlayGen2.v1.01.02.zip, I reckon it’s for the Gen 2.

Hi All, Does any one know how to make WD Elements play Gen1 play an MKV movie with DTS audio. Mine will only play the video will but there is no audio coming out both from the RCA outputs and HDMI outputs.

Is this normal for Gen1.? Is there a Firmware that can make this unit play all MKV format movie with out problems.?

Thanks and regards

Yes, that’s normal for the Gen1, because the Gen1 doesn’t support DTS.

Sir TonyPH12345,

Can an installation of an additional Codec to the system make this device support MKV with DTS? Does WD provide this information ( Installation of additional Codec. )?

regards,

No, and no.

Sir,

Thank you very much for all your troubles in answering my questions…

Now I am stucked with an expensive storage device, since most of my movies are in MKV DTS.

I am now considering another brand for this purpose.

Then why did you buy it?   The documentation says that it doesn’t support DTS…

Whatever you decide to replace it with, make sure you do adequate research first so you don’t get stuck again.

2 ways out:

  1. Convert all DTS audio tracks to AC3 or AAC: google for “mkv convert dts to ac3”.

Audio recoding is fast (~10 minutes for 2 hour movie) and without noticeable loss of quality.

  1. Buy a media player with a) DTS support and b) easy installable HD.

Then dismantle the WEP and put the HD into the new player. I’m however not sure, if WD does some magic behind the scene thus making the naked harddisk unreadable => make a backup (something that you should do in any case).

Hello,

I have the WD Elements play WDBACC0010HBK

The firmware that REALLY is available for my Wd is the 1.01.10 (10/2010) version, right?

Not worth trying another solution but one that the site is available for download, right?

A version of the most current firmware only on newer models, right?

Best Regards for all

Thankx

1.01.10 is the latest version for your WDEP.

Thanks Tony, I’ll give this one a go, forgot all about the unit.

my firmware version is 1.01.10 does this mean its the 1st version, how do you tell?

the new firmware states 1.01.02 and in every other walk of life numbers go up not down or am i reading it wrong?

I think it realates to the model number ( And probably country you are in)…So for my model number WDBNLC0020HBK i use firmware 1.01.02 l …but other model numbers use 1.01.12 …so i think you dont have the latest
