New WD Black 500GB issue need help!

Hey guys,

Anybody see this issue before or have a possible fix?

I just purchased a WD Black 500Gb hard drive to put on a MSI 870A-G54 motherboard and am getting terrible driver performance in ACHI or ide mode. I’ve had several drives in there, standard and ssd before without speed issues before.

Loaded Windows 7 Ultimate the first time and after the first updates it rebooted and froze at the welcome screen…I reset and it loaded fine and I did the updates. Stuff was sluggish, opening windows, programs, surfing web, downloads, etc. but I thought I would wait until I loaded all the AMD chipset drivers. This is in ACHI mode btw with standard MS ACHI 1.0 driver.

What’s funny is the OS would recognize that I had Amd achi hardware but wouldn’t let me load the AMD ACHI drivers, yet it loaded the MS drivers…I ran a hdtune test and it averaged about 89MB with 119MB max but went down to 1.9MB on the slowest, avg access was 16.2ms! I switched to IDE mode but still same crappy results. I had a separate older wd hard drive in there as back up with the same results!

OK, I thought I would reload windows using ACHI mode but same issue and crappy performance, although it is a little snappier this time. I should say that I left the new WD black drive in SATA III (6GB) mode, should I set the jumper to SATA II mode and try it, the mobo does SATA III?

Any suggestions…

Hey, You did not specify the model number of your drive but I would recommend you to use WD Diagnostic tool to run an Extended Test on the drive and fix any errors that could be found in the drive. The application is called Data Lifeguard Diagnostic and I found it on the link below.
