New WD TV Live Steaming Media Player Disappointment

Hi guys i am a long time user of wdhd media players, i just purchased the new live streaming player and think that the new menu and wifi are great additions, But it is riddled with issues i have the latest firmware 1.05.18 here are the issues i have encountered;

.When turning on it hangs on logo screen than restarts

.Remote control seems to stop working after being turned on for a while

.When playing .MKV it seems to freeze than fast forward 30 sec into movie that play normal again

.Most of my .AVI are not supported 80% of my 4 TB of media is .AVI so this **bleep**

.Wont connect to wifi automatically i have to manually connect every time (i have the setting set to auto)

.The remote wont turn the unit on sometimes, i have to unplug the power and wait a few mins than try again

.When playing .MKV it will flash back to the menu screen and freeze the remote but continue playing audio

Will this stuff be fixed in a firmware update? Or do i have a dud box that needs returning? I can understand company’s wanting to get there tech out before Christmas but this release is a joke. I have been talking people into going out and buying your media player for years but i do not have any trust in this new box, i would like to note that all of the .AVI files that are currently not supported on this streaming model where supported and played well on my previous live model.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards Luke

Reset it and if that does not work return it.

hey i am my self a long time user, i had the 1st version but this new one looked good so i went and brought it.

Now i been having some of the same problums as ic3clot

When turning on it hangs on logo screen than restarts*

When playing .MKV it seems to freeze than fast forward 30 sec into movie that play normal again (i tryed the same file on the 1st gen wdtv and they work fine)

btw ic3clot

The remote wont turn the unit on sometimes* ( i find if you wait for a min or 2 after pressing the power button it starts up, but tbh this is a disgrace)

Have you tried to reset the unit. Press the paperclip button for a couple of seconds and then release with the player fully booted up.

Tell me about it this is an awful piece of kit, I wish i had gone for apple tv.

This thing you have to log in everytime and if you try to save folders to your media library you have no chance of getting back into them.

When I bought my first unit, it had so many issues including deleting my files from a portable HD connected to it via the usb port.

I gave up on that unit and returned it but got another replacement since I liked the unit.

The unit that I have now doesn’t have the issues that the previous  one I bought had.

I’m guessing there are a lot of lemons out there as this new model might have been rushed to come out and sell.

Quality control might have plummeted.

My advice is, return the one with issues and get another one.

By returning the product, WD would know that they have to make Quality Control better.

I bought the Sony SMP-N100 previous to this and that was a piece of junk!

Specs said it could play .mkv files but it was not able to play any of my .mkv files let alone other video format taken by point and shoot cameras.

That Sony has compatibility issues!

With this WD TV Live Streaming Media Player however, it is able to handle any file I have thrown at it so far!

This product should not be release cuz it works like a beta test on it’s frimware issues…Sad to say I already bought one:(

This product really is the pits

Actually I find it pretty good, if you really want the pits, try the patriot Box Office. Terrible GUI
