No Dolby Digital TrueHD Audio Pass-Through via Optical Only or Stereo

First of all Dolby Digital TrueHD audio is availabe on anumber of Blu-Ray DVD’s. If you stream a Blu-Ray with this audio track selected you will only be able to hear it inconjuction with a surround amplifier. Your WD TV Live Hub will need it’s audio output set to “Digital Pass-Through” and be connected by a HDMI cable. No audio will be available if you select “Digital Pass-Through via Optical Only” or Stereo.

The WD TV Live Hub currently only supports up to Dolby Digital Plus as stated in the specifications. It is able to detect the audio stream and provide you a label when changing audio tracks. You may se any of the following…

DTSMA - DTS Master Audio

DTSHRA - DTS High Resolution Audio

*Note if you use the Optical connection “DTS-HD Master Audio” will pass through as “DTS” (core only) .

DTS-HD Master Audio is not passed through HDMI or Optical, only the core DTS signal.

DDTrueHD - Dolby Digital TrueHD

Dolby Digital - Dolby Digital (Other versions of Dolby will be displayed as Dolby Digital. Wikipedia “Dolby Pro logic”)

So if you want the Dolby Digital TrueHD logo to light up on your digital surround receiver remember it is only passed through by the HDMI cable.

When the WD TV Live Hub “audio out” setting is set to “Stereo” audio is sent out as Dolby Digital Pro Logic (2 channel)

Yep, also confirmed on pre-sales by WD and the user manual as well says it’s DTS 2.0+ Digital Out, that’s not DTS-HD.

Still, you have given a good way to go around it, kudos for that =)

Darn. Can they get this fixed why spend $200 bucks on the thing and it still doesn’t pass DTS HD signals. I’ll hold off on purchasing a couple of these and see what the market offers with other devices if WD want to be this stupid

The bit rates are high with HD video. It would be great to at least pass them through.
