Yesterday I turned my WD TV Live on for the first time in a few weeks and it did a firmware update (I’m in the UK), which appeared to work fine.
I started to watch a .mov file on the TV and about half way through I pressed pause to go and get a drink.
After a few minutes I came back and pressed play but the WD TV Live would not respond to the remote. I unplugged it from the power and then powered it up again but it just comes back on at the “video” selection on the menu and won’t respond to the remote. If I leave it powered up it goes to the screen saver but that’s it.
I’ve replaced the batteries in the remote but to no avail.
Has anybody seen this before and have any ideas or is it a send it back job?
I also have the same problem. I am buying another remote control for now and will check to see if it is a remote control problem. if not, I will have to send my player for repair. I am quite diappointed with this player. I only had the WB HD live player for 3 months and this happens.
Watch some movies in divx or xvid or etc after 2-3 hours of watching i just left it on live365 radio station after hour or more remote stops respond.
But if i connect flashdrive or usbhdd wdtv scan it and enable usb icon. So it doesn’t hang, it just stop listening remote.
Disconnect from ac outlet back it to normal.
Intresting that if right after poweron i go to radio - works fine. I try 12 hours playing - all works awesome.
Looks like some error in firmware that can cause this, i already write in support, after weeks or two it has resolved status, so all we need just waight new firmware i suppose.
I have been using my WD HD Player for the last 10 months. It worked smoothly, but I had the same problem that my remote control stopped responding yesterday.
Even after replacing the batterires, problem didn’t solve. When I checked from Infra-red Camera the remote control’s LED does blink when I press any button on remote. Somehow the device doesn’t respond to remote control.
I didn’t even perform the firmware upgrade. Can anyone suggest me what to do in this regard? I have even posted the question to WD technical support, and still waiting for their reply.

Try pushing the side reset button with a paperclip (1 second) with the unit on. It will reboot and may work.
Try leaving the unit unplugged for 10 minutes or so.
Are there any other remotes in the room which may have a stuck button. (the infra red from this remote could block out the signal from the WD remote)
Have you tried putting the remote right up to the front of the WDTV live.
I have had the same problems. I am able to turn the device on with the remote (since there is no other way… don’t lose/forget your remote) but as soon as it’s on the remote doesn’t respond. I end up having to remove the power cord and start over. It’s very annoying. This happens about half of the time I turn the device on.
Sounds like a hardware fix is needed. Firmware updated needed WD! Help us out.
Don’t get me started on your new WDTV Live Plus… I hate you. Bring Netflix to your supporters who though you would someday offer a firmware update to WDTV Live (without the Plus). If it can do YouTube it can do Netflix. I doubt there is any hardware difference in the models. And where are Universal Remote codes??? Come on.
