I have been wondering if I am the only one with the following issue as I cannot find any topics about this. I have a WDTV Live SMP running 1.15.10. When using services (Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, etc) the sound will not play unless I perform a device restart. It seems to only affect the services apps and not my external HD. No other issue with the sound seems to exist.
My WDTV is connected wirelessly to my network and everything plays fine. Strong N network connection (I will be connecting a powerline later). Thinking of rolling back the firmware but wanted to see if there was anyone else with the same issue.
What I wind up doing is powering on my WDTV, going into settings and doing a device restart. It’s a small annoyance but one I would like resolved as I was not have this issue when I purchased it. I love the box and it has paid for itself several times over ( I cut cable over a year ago).
How are you connected for sound. If it is via HDMI then try the AV output as a test. You could also try a reset to factory defaults to see if that cures the problem.
Since upgrading to the latest firmware, I have reproduced the same problem with Vudu. Sometimes, it will not play sound unless I hard reboot the device. It seems to happen more often if I was first playing something from local USB storage. My device is hooked up to an A/V receiver via HDMI.
I’ve had a similar issue lately. Of the services, I mainly use Netflix; don’t know whether others may also fail. Sometimes when I start a Netflix video, there is no sound. I can usually get it to work by going to a different service, and the sound works, then back to Netflix. I’ve never had to reset the SMP to get Netflix sound to work. My audio out is by Optical Digital to a 5.1 receiver.

This has never worked for me. I must restart the box in order to have sound on any services.
So did you try the AV output and a reset to factory defaults?
I may try the AV output, but as I stated, I am using HDMI and a factory default does nothing. Using Device Restart usually works better than having to do a Device Reset every time!
The AV suggestion is purely a troubleshooting test. I was not suggesting that you do a reset to factory defaults every time but to see if the reset would cure your problem.
