i have my receiver connected through TOS-link to the WDTV live and everything works fine if i playback DTS or AC3 5.1 audiotracks, but AC3 2.0 or simple MP3 files don’t work anymore. i already had problems before when i wanted to playback simple stereo-files like MP3 or OGG. the receiver showed “PCM” as imput, but sometimes no sound was heard. i had to pause the file and start again to make it work.
now with the latest firmware this trick doesn’t work anymore. i don’t get any sound if it is stereo regardless if it is a video with stereosound in it or if it is an audio-file, only DTS and AC3 5.1 seem to work through optical out.
the audio settings are set to optical pass through.
do i have to downgrade again. i really like the auto-frame feature now. can the audio-problem be fixed in future. i hope it doesn’t get overlooked, as i already have seen others claiming to have the same problem.
Same exact issue and it’s really annoying. I used to have glitches but a simple pause and resume fixed everything. Now after the latest update I can no longer listen to MP3’s. This is a huge deal. Thinking of ditching the WDTV for music and buying a Sonos or just replacing the WDTV with a Boxee. Each firmware update seems to fix issues but create more. It really is quite annoying to say the least and has definatley tainted my faith in the WDTV to ever become a mature and stable product. It’s been over a year since i’ve bought it. you would think it would be a fine working machine by now!
I have WDTV Live HD and the latest firmware. My sound system is similar to yours. Optical cable from wdtv to av receiver Yamaha 5.1. Everything works fine for me ac3 dts and playing mp3 songs from hard drive attached to wdtv. All sound goes through optical cable to av receiver. Only issue that I have is with mp4 movies and aac sound but that is problem that everybody knows. Maybe is something wrong with your equipment.
I also have the problem that no stereo-encoded files will play any longer via optical output. Only via ordinary stereo (analogue) connection. WD support simply told me to downgrade to 1.04.17 to be able to listen to these files (MP3s, YouTube etc.) via optical (TOSLink) output again. This fixed it, but it’s not a solution as I want to make use of new features and it would be highly inconvenient to connect the WDTV through analogue and optical connectors and then have to switch around on the receiver depending on the media played.
As this bug is not fixed in 1.05.04 now, it would be great if everyone affected could bring up the issue with WD regularly.
P.S.: The only thing strange to me is the different problems that people are reporting: With some, it seems not to be a problem, whereas with others (including me) only a firmware downgrade works. Can those of you who got it working maybe post your configuration?
