Not getting a "Sync to MyCloud" option for some folders?

Just installed MyCloud Home. Other than the lack of install instructions, I got it installed and running pretty quickly. Right clicked on a bunch of folders to sync to MyCloud and for some folders I don’t get the “Sync to MyCloud” option. Specifically Music and Video folders. All the others work fine.

I should also mention that all my folders are ‘sync’d’ to Microsoft OneDrive. Documents, Pictures, etc sync to MyCloud fine, just wont sync Music or Video.

Thoughts? I’m not looking to play or view them from MyCloud (not yet anyway) but just want them copied there.

Also…while I’m at it. I realy wanted this just for backup and didn’t realize the WD Backup utility until I started the Sync. So…I downloaded that. But it doesn’t "see’ the drive, only Dropbox. I tried all the troublshooting online and it still doesn’t see the drive, even though the Sync is (somewhat) working.

TIA

Wrong forum:

That’s only for MyBook, I think.

You probably want to look at the Solutions page for the Home:

The folder sync only works with folders in specific paths or folder on the desktop. Are your music and video folders in the default paths? Below is a knowledge base article that shows the supported paths for the folder sync feature.

You are correct. WD Backup does not work with MyCloud. I guess I have to go with standard Windows Backup? Not what I was looking for…I was led to beleive (Best Buy guy) that this drive could do automatic backups.

I used to have an old Seagate that did automatic scheduled backups. Unfortunately they sunsetted it and did not have software compatible with Win10…little did I know until about a year later learning that my ‘backups’ were not really backing up…

Interesting… so if you have files in other areas you can’t sync them at all? This is not a very useful drive…there are a lot of documents (such as Outlook.pst files) that stay under their respective program files folders. How do you auto sync them?
And even more interestingly is that the Documents and Pictures folders are under the OneDrive directory and they work fine,

It can probably do automatic backups of itself to an attached HDD.

Check the Home Support page; there may be a version of WD Smartware for it, which is a backup tool.

I’m not convinced by the idea of the Home device; I don’t want something that needs a WD utility running on my PC just to access my NAS (WD Discovery). I’m happy that I have the MyCloud devices, rather than the Home, as these are accessible as network drives without any WD utilities getting in the way…

correct the folder sync option is limited to the specific paths in the article I linked. If you would like to see more paths supported I would suggest posting in the My Cloud Home Ideas board.

Gotcha…so probably a regular MyCloud drive is what I wanted, NOT a Home… just got it yesterday so I’m probably bringing it back today then. :frowning:
Oh well…live and learn…
thanks!

My outlook.pst files are inside C:\Users\username\Documents\OutlookFiles. I have my Document folder set to Sync to My Cloud Home, and it is including the .pst files. I think with the later versions of Windows, they strive to have all app data inside folders that are inside the Documents folder.

I have also mapped the My Cloud Home device as a network drive, and am using Windows Backup to backup machines to the My Cloud Home device.
