Opening a password protected file via remote access

Hi,

I have a password protected Excel file on WD My Cloud drive. I could easily open it from my local Wifi. It simply asked for the access password and opened and I could edit and save normally.

When I tried to open the same file through web access, the file asked me for _ username _ (!!) and password. I tried my WD cloud username and password, it asked for them for three times then opened the Excel but not the file. I tried again supplying my WD username but my _ file _ password, and again I was asked for three times then again Excel opened but not the file.

Any suggestions, guys?

I’d recommend copying the file remotely to the host computer before attempting to open it; this may bypass additional security protocols related to the remote servers.

I understand that this might be a viable work around. I was hoping that there might be a solution to edit the file in place

I do this with Open Office with no issues, so it is probably an MS office issue instead of a mycloud issue so a work around my be the only choice.

you could also try saving it as an older version of office as they change the security at some point. the document may be less sucure this way but could be an option
