Overheating

Hello, my Live Hub continually shuts down after giving a warning that the system temperature has reached 65 degrees C. I can immediately restart it and all is well for approx 4 minutes when it repeats the warning and shuts down again. I’ve had the lid off and fitted an extra fan but exactly the same happens within the same time frame. Any ideas guys?

Have had my WDTV Live Hub for about 5-6 Years and Never encountered any Heat Issues.
(even after leaving it on for days in the Aussie summer months)

Just thoughts…

When anything “Overheats” it’s not common sense to “immediately restart it” …
ie. give it a chance to cool down before retrying

Are you using the correct power adaptor ? 2A 5V

Plenty of ventilation ?

Is the original fan still spinning ?

How did “fit” an extra fan ? correct voltage ? 12V

What happens if you “leave the lid off” during use ? does it still overheat ?

I didn’t turn it back on to start with I did feel the box and ensure that it was cool. Thanks for your suggestions but I did approach it logically and did most of what you suggested. I have since found the problem and rectified it thanks. It was a failing hard drive that was throwing out spurious fault and error messages. At no time did the box overheat, which I found unusual given the error message. Ah well… as they say ‘All’s well’

I doubted that there was a heat issue. The SMP8654 processor can max out at 120C…I went the other way on this and took out the fan. Runs no warmer than it did with the fan.
