Parental Control Password

Hi,

I set the parental control password on the WDTV Live SMP to try it out and see what options there were (was hoping I could use it to hide the Windows 7 public share folders that contain no media…guess I can’t, it would be a good feature though).

Anyway, I figured I could just remove the password when I was done.  Well, it appears that once one is set, you can only change the password to a new one but can’t remove or disable the password (thus returning it to the state it was in before I set it).  Does anyone know if the password can be removed?

I haven’t found any documentation on this anywhere.  Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Turning the parental controls OFF should have the same effect, right?

That seems logical, but I tried it with no luck.  I had set it to off (and it did indicate off on the menu) and fully exited.  When I return to the menu and click on parental controls (which still says off), it asks me for the password, so I have to enter the one I created before to proceed.

I also tried selecting “Set New Password” and tried leaving the password field blank, but it won’t accept an empty password.  Could I be missing something here?

This isn’t really a big deal considering the other bugs people are trying to sort out, I just find it strange that I can’t get it back to the default state.   Everything is fine as long as I never forget the password (though I could see that happening considering I couldn’t log back into the forum)…

Ah, OK, I follow you.

Yeah, turning it off won’t DELETE the password, but if it’s OFF, there’s no use for whatever password is set.

Of course, you can do a “Restore” to clear it.

As Tony says just ‘reset to factory defaults’ via the internal menu and hopefully the password will disappear.
