Passport Essential SE won't work on USB 3.0 hub, only USB 2.0

I have a thinkpad T420s that will read from my new passport 1TB from the USB 3.0 port, but it won’t recognize the Passport Essential, which will work in the USB 2.0 port, and will always generate a message from windows reminding me that data transfer will be faster if I use the 3.0 port.  Any idea what’s going on?

Make sure that the drivers for the USB 3.0 are updated as well for the computer.

Also if possible test a different device on the 3.0 ports to see if the port is in a good working condition.
