Passport passworded without being set

i recently got a 1Tb hard drive at had copy about 200Gb of stuff onto it an it was working fine until a few days ago when my computer would start (boot) properly, had to swap in and out the ram, then i booted fine, however my passport said the drive was now locked and I need to enter a password. I haven’t actual set a password though so I’ve no idea what password it wants. can any body help, as I’d really like this stuff back.

Was the Passport drive connected during that time?
