I just bought WD TV live and all works well excpet for these 2 issues:
I have a samba share on a linux box, I can view the shares on my windows PC but cant on this device also I can view all the windows PCs and their folders but not linux. I have checked all my smb.conf file and nothing seems amiss. I even tried the solution on this link but no joy:

I know almost nothing about Linux but my NAS (like the Live) runs Linux and the shares work on it just fine so I don’t think it’s an issue with the Live but rather how your shares are setup. For sure I’d turn off passwords, share with everybody, and reset the Live unit (do a hard reset on the side of the unit).
The other thing I’d try is to turn off everything on your network and then turn on your Linux box and THEN the Live (don’t turn on your Windows machine or any other computer at all). Give the Live a few minutes after it boots up, and then try the net share option (you may have to back out, wait a few minutes, then try again – I find it takes a few minutes for the net shares to stabilize).
Perhaps some Linux type folks will jump in here to help.
My samba shares from MEPIS linux weren’t working with WD TV Live either (everything thing else on my samab network was fine) ; the problem was my samba config. I didn’t narrow it down to EXACTLY what the problem was, but here is my smb.conf file that works with my WD - maybe it will help someone:

Instead of using samba, the other solution which should work to stream movies is to use twonky (or maybe mediatomb)
I use twonky from my MEPIS linux for music and photos (because of the menu/selection options), and samba shares to watch movies.
