Just purchased the My Net N900 Central router. One of the reasons I purchased it was to connect my old dog of a printer and use it as a network printer (HP Officejet 5150). I should have done more research. It prints, but the format is incorrect-it prints a quarter of a page, advances, prints more of the page…you get the idea. I’ve tried updating drivers, etc. but can’t solve the problem.
So…I’m thinking of buying a new printer (and probably a wireless one, so I wouldn’t have needed the new router), but I’m a little gunshy since WD only lists a few printers it has tested with this router and I don’t like the “should work if printer shares a common chipset” blurb on their site.
Plus, as another soul on this site mentioned while trying to find out what chipset was in his Brother printer, who the heck knows what chipset is in their printer? Epson surely doesn’t mention it on their website.
More information on printers would be good is all I’m saying…
My whole point is there are only 9 printers in the world that WD tested for compatibility? Since this is a key function of a networking device I would think more would be supported. But maybe I’m missing something. (And I know the caveat about if your printer contains the same chipset it should work with the device…)
I’m not saying my old printer should be supported, I’m just saying a longer list of tested devices would be something customers would appreciate before shelling out a couple hundred bucks on a printer that won’t work with this new gee-whiz product.
I have a Lexmark p6250 all in one printer. Is WD going to test with Lexmark? Or would someone have any advice on how to use this Lexmark printers? Currently the WD wizard isn’t detecting the printer even connected… I have a My Net n750 which I bought a couple weeks ago. I was really looking forward to sharing our printer between all of our computers.
