Problem playing videos

Hi guys,

I just recently got a WD Live TV hub and I’ve been putting all the HD videos I have onto it. The problem I have is that the Hub doesn’t “see” some of these videos. At first I thought it could be because of the size of the file (~4 - 10 GB) but I’ve read on numerous forums that people have had no problems playing files the size of 32Gb… so back to square one.

I assume it must be a codec issue so I’ve got some media info to share. The following is an MKV which the device can see and play:

Can anyone help me out? I’ve trawled through the user manual but it’s not very specific saying only that it supports the codecs that are listed in the Media Info…

Many thanks!

If you mean by “the HUB doesn’t “see” some of the videos”  that the files don’t show up, then the problem isn’t with the files, but that the HUB isn’t indexing them.  This does happen occasionally and is a known issue.

The simple solution is to unplug the power cord, then plug it back in.  Once the HUB finishes compiling the library your files should show up.

Yes that is what I mean. I was hoping I wouldnt need to do reencoding  Thanks for your suggestion - I will try it out when i get home and let you know how I go.

I didn’t look at your file link.   YOu could have just posted the detail in your post.

But I suspect the WMV files are WMV2 format, and the WDTV supports only the WMV9 format.   Also, the WMV9 format cannot be using DRM.

Yup, same problem I had until I got something that would convert the wmv files to a proper format. There is a program that is free that does a pretty good job converting the files. I’m not advertising just suggesting a program called Freemake Video Converter. You can search and find it with no problem.
