Problems running two 1TB passport portable drives together

I have two 1TB passport portable drives purchased at the same time. The idea was to be able to back one up to the other to keep data (I had just had a 1.5TB drive fail after only 9 months).

I can plug either of the drives in and the system will recognise it with no bother but will not ‘see’ the other drive when that is added.

I’m using an 8GB Lenove laptop with 4 USB ports running under Windows 7 64bit. Other additional drives can be plugged in with no problem but I just can’t seem to run the 2 Passports at the same time.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
