Public share won't mount on mac

I have a 1 TB WD World Edition that mainly hosts my large (400GB) itunes collection, with the 2 other shares devoted to backup for myself and wife.

Yesterday I attempted copying iTunes collection to portable USB drive. The copying was going fine until, 8 or so hours later, the copying failed for no particular reason, This left me with only about half of collection backed up.

To my horror, I can no longer mount the Public share on my mac (or any mac on this network). I can see it under “SHARED” in the but when I attempt to mount I get this message: <The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Public” can’t be found.>

I can, however, see all iTunes folders/files through Twonky (including on my TV). It just won’t mount on mac.

The other shares mount correctly, including the usb drive.

I imagine it’s a corrupt directory. Is there a way to fix this? Is there software that does the equivalent of Disk Utility for NAS drives?

Any help would be appreciated - I’m going out of my mind with this!!!

Thanks

Step 1- get another machine (preferably a PC) and see if you can mount the drive there. If you can, back up the remaining data immideatly. If it doesn’t mount there, call support before doing anything else as the drive can be a bit tempermental and you don’t want to risk losing any more data.
