Question about the new wd tv live vs older

i have two older wd tv live plus (with the super small remote) and i just wanted to make sure that if i add the new wd tv live that it functions the same or better as what i currently have. also, most importantly i want to make sure that it will play

dvd iso and mkv  files fine as the ones i currently have do that perfectly.

thanks

Does anyone have an opinion of the difference, good and bad, between the versions?

One reason would be that the older units don’t have encrypted firmware, so you can try alternate firmware like WDLXTV ( http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Main_Page)..)

I’m kicking myself for buying this unit because of that fact.  It’s ironic that paid support is slower to respond to issues and develop firmware than open source communities; doubly so when they also add tons of features, hence more creative, while the firmware on this **bleep** is encrypted to do what, protect intellectual property?  I don’t think anyone wanted to steal your bugs, WD.

I also have two older models. Just got the new one (“streaming” with the large remote).

I’m very disappointed because the new one has many many bugs: it reboots often and looses the network and/or connected drive.

It also not so simple so use all of them together anymore: the new one does not use folder.jpg anymore while the old ones do.

It is also immposible to use all the new cool features because they require you to turn on “media library” which in my case cause an endless “compiling media library”. It takes hours to complete and from some reason repeats itself after a simple on/off operation.
