Question from Newbie

Hi

Please dont think me completely stupid !  Oh, OK then, you can if you want.

I am looking at the WD live streamer. I want to be able to play  my music, videos and pictures on my tv, from my win7 computer. This is connected to broadband via a wireless router. Am I correct in thinking the WD live streamer plugs into the TV with an HDMI cable and that the box just connects to the wireless network in the house. ie it does not need to be plugged into the router?

Apologies again if this is a real stupid question !!

Rob

That is not a stupid question; don’t be afraid to ask questions here.

Yes, you are correct in your assumptions, but the WD box does not have wireless built in. You have to buy a USB wireless adapter separately. Only certain adapters are supported by WD and you have to make sure that you get an adapter with the correct hardware version number, or it will not work.

Approved Wireless Adapters

Hi

Thanks for the response, thats great news. So I just get the wirless adapter from the list, this plugs in the usb on the WD TV live box. The WD TV live box connects via HDMI to the TV.

This will then allow the box to connect to my home wireless network, and then I should be able to stream from my computer to the TV.

Hope fully thats right and me set to buy the kit.

Thanks so much for the advice

Rob

Yes, that is how it works.

WD has the Live and the Live Plus. The two boxes are nearly identical except that the Live Plus has a chipset that supports DRM copy protection. That means that the Live Plus will support Netflix and other similar applications. If you are interested in Netflix, Blockbuster, etc, then get the Live Plus, otherwise the Live box is a little less expensive.
