Question re TV live streaming

hi

Quick question If you Can help.

If I plug a USB ext hard drive into this and then go to my computer in another room. Can I transfer video files to this connected hard drive via this wireless wd tv streamingbox?

I generally prefer to play things from a disk you see, rather than stream from a computer. I don’t want to be walking back and forwards with a USB stick from computer to the wd box.

Ideally my wife would be watching TV, id be upstairs on my computer. She yells for me to sort out a film and then on my computer I transfer the file wirelessly to  the connected USB hard drive  via the wd TV live streaming box and then it appears on the menu so She Can watch it, without me moving from my chair. possible?

thanks

(ps don’t want to splash out on the WD with the 1 tb, already have a USB HDD)

Yes, you can and that’s one of the many great things about this little box.

I have two hard drives hooked up directly to the player (2TB and 1.5TB). I edit and move files directly onto those hard drives via my computer through the home network. It couldn’t be easier once you have it set up (although I have to say that the data transfer rate for me is a little slower over the network than it would be through a direct usb interface).

This is my third version of the player. The first one had no network. I had to unplug the drives, physically carry them over to the PC, put files on and take it back to the player. Major pain-i-t-a.

My next version was the Live and I had to run an ethernet cable 30 feet long along the length of the wall from my computer to the player.

This version really is the summit as far as I’m concerned. It still has some minor wrinkles to be ironed out but it does a lot and I personally feel like it was a steal at $100.

you can do this by making sure the box has network share turned on and on the same workgroup,
it works well for wireless but the speeds are slow compaired to having the box plugged into ethernet.

[EDIT] opps, looks like outburst beat me to it. [EDIT]
