So my DX4000 has been eating drives- I have had this for 2 years and this is my 5th replacement drive. Usually, I just plug in the new drive and it has rebuilt within 24 hours. This time, it went 8 days, and it had not progressed beyond 0.15%. Well, this did not seem right to me, so I pulled the drive being rebuilt, and installed another fresh one. Within a few minutes it had recognized that this drive was: 1) compatible, and 2) new drive. Rebuild began again.
Here I am three days later, and the drives no longer have their LEDs on steady state. The front panel no longer shows rebuilding either. But the DashBoard still shows the drive status as “rebuilding…”, and it is unable to gather any data from the drives. Right now, I have forced a chkdsk of the D: volume so it is restarting rather slowly.
Another gem- for weeks I have been getting email from this device saying that the network connection is down. Think about that for a minute…
Any ideas what has gone wrong here? Is my gadget haunted by the Ghost of Spinning Rust?
