Recent files, favorites, library, in media server / network share

Hi,

I am sorry if this is answered elsewgere, but I couldn’t find it in clear terms.

I got a “WD TV Live” (the square box with NO hd) and as far as I’ve been able to determine, it blissfully ignores a lot of functionality for files that are accessed over the network, either DLNA or SMB. First thing, the ‘Dashboard’ is only available when I insert a USB flash drive. But I can’t seem to be able to do anything with it:

1 - it doesn’t remember my recently viewed network files

2 - it doesn’t let me mark network files as favorites (I got the confirmation in http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-General-Discussions/quot-Favorite-quot-network-share-location/m-p/33259#M9970))

3 - the network files aren’t added to the media library

Is there anything I’m doing wrong? Or is this by design? Personally, I think that without (1) this is quite a pitiful device. I can’t for the life of me understand how a media player that is at its most useful when playing DLNA content doesn’t have the ability to remember what it’s been playing. It’s an utter fail (at least it is able to resume playback at the point it had stopped before). Points 2 and 3 are minor in comparison.

The FAQ mentions limitations of content sources, but I think these should be mentioned as well. I’m very disappointed. It’s something I just don’t understand.

If anyone has a solution to point 1, please share. Thank you very much.

I agree, does anyone have any feedback?

Yeah, this thread is in the wrong forum, because the devices in this forum don’t do any of that.

This forum is for the 2009 model WDTV Live HD and 2010 model WDTV Live Plus.

The forum for the 2011 WDTV Live Streaming Media Player is here:

But to answer the question, none of that functionality is available unless you’re using the Media Library function.   And according to the OP’s descriptions, that’s not being done.

Post has been moved to the correct forum.
