Ok, brand new 3TB MyCloud. For whatever reason it took forever to connec the first time, after and hour of waiting, rebooted a few times and eventually got the blue light. Successfully uploaded my entire movie library without incident. After powering everything down this morning, it won’t connect at all now. Before I uploaded everything, I did get the latest updates loaded to it and everything seemed to be running fine. Thoughts?
What do you mean by won’t connect at all? Have you tried pinging the device by IP / Hostname? Access the dashboard by IP / Hostname?
I can’t seem to get an IP for it, like it won’t talk to either of the routers I’ve used. What’s the best way to obtain this?
First reboot the device to and make sure LED is blue. Then open command prompt in Windows (or Terminal in Mac) and type: ping wdmycloud
or “ping (hostname)” where hostname is the name of the wdmycloud if you changed it. You should get a “Reply from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx” where xxx is the IP address of the My Cloud. Type that IP into the browser and it should take you to the dashboard.
That’s exactly the problem, the light never turns blue…that white led is mocking me.
How long have you left it on during the white led? give it a bit as it may be running a file system check.
I’ve let it be for 30-60 minutes at a time before trying a reboot
Same problem here. :\
Had ro restart the cloud and first blinking yellow, next restart constant white led, router can’t see the my cloud
At this point if you can’t connect to it or the LED doesn’t turn blue, contact WD support.
Did, they didnt answer yet in the last 24 hours.
No word from WD. Unfortunately I’m stationed in Saudi Arabia so it’s difficult to try and call them too. May just have to RMA the thing and try for another one.
Got it running! Unplug power, hold reset while connecting power, continue holding reset for 45 seconds. Rebooted and connected successfully!

Out of interest, as detailed on page 107 of the manual.
Resetting with Power Off
At the same time as you plug power into the WD My Cloud device, press the Reset button
and hold for about 40 seconds. The device undergoes a system restore and powers on.
Good to see that it works.
