I have not been able to access my cloud network drive remotely outside my own wifi network.
I have logged into the dashboard on my PC, and under the settings option the Connection Status says: Connected (Relay connection established) Port forwarding failed to connect on port 8080 and port 4Port forwarding failed to connect on port 8080 and port 443.
I have followed all the instructions including creating a static ip address and I have also ensured that both ports (8080 and 443) are open using an open port checker website.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this stupid thing to connect using these ports? I can’t use port 80 as my CCTV system runs through it!
I can access the drive using the apps on my phone/ipad when on my home wifi.

Telling your stupid router to do so.
Port forward these ports on your router i.e 9080 to 80 and 443 to 443 to the ip of your MyCloud and change 80 to 9080 in the manual settings in your MyCloud dasboard.
Thanks sammarbella for this advice. My dashboard is now saying it is connected!!
I followed the guidance that I linked from in the settings area of the dashboard and that advised using port 8080. I tried forwarding port 8090 on my router but that wouldn’t open when I kept checking it using one of the open port checker websites.
Thanks anyway. Hopefully I will now grow to love my WD Cloud.
I am having the same trouble that JonnyT had. I have a Linksys WRT160N router, and have tried numberous port combinations to no effect. I have tried (external/internal) 80/80 and 443/443, 8080/80 and 8443/443, 9080/80 and 443/443, 9080/80 and 8443/443, etc.
I called the WD “Concierge” service and they advised me that they do not support this, that it is a router issue. I went to the Linksys knowledge base and it says to refer to the device (MyCloud) documentation for the “external” port numbers. But I can’t find that anywhere. The WD knowledge base article on enabling port forwarding says that MyBookLive and MyCloud use “external” ports 8080 and 8443 for the port forwarding. But as I said above, that doesn’t work.
Can you just choose any “external” ports, as long as the “internal” ports on the router are 80 and 443 and the router and WD manual configuration numbers match up, or are there particular “external” ports that I must designate for MyCloud?
Oh, and let me add. I have gone to www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ and tested my ports. 80 is always open, under whatever combination I try, even though the MyCloud dashboard settings page says "port forwarding failed to connect on ports 9080 and 443. Port 443 always shows to be closed on the port checker.
I’m having the same or a very similar problem as GreggK , and I don’t see any answer posted. I cannot get remote access set up because the MyCloud does not see the internet.
I have the MyCloud plugged into a LinksysE3000 that I use for wireless service in the house. It acts as a bridge and is connected to a Verizon Fios cable modem and to my PC.
I had network setup problems with the MyCloud as well, but they were ultimately resolved by WD’s tier 2 help desk. That tech told me in my configuration the MyCloud can and should be connected to the Linksys, rather than directly to the Verizon cable modem, which the level 1 tech. first suggested, but could not get to work.
Getting pretty frustrated now that I’ve had the MyCloud for a month and still can’t get it fully functional. The MyCloud is looking more and more like a great idea poorly executed…
I understand that you can now access your NAS dashboard from your computer…
I am guessing you are looking at your NAS dashboard settings>network to determine you don’t have Internet access? Or are you looking at Cloud Access under settings>general ?
