Removing Password Protection and turning WD drive to a standard HD drive

I have a WD Passport drive model WDBYxxxxxx bought 2014. I will like to remove password protection and uninstal all WD smartware and other WD programs. I will like to turn this drive into a standard HD drive so I can plug it into any computer. I looked into the WD Security program telling me to:

  1. Type password in box

  2. select Remove Security option

  3. Click UpdateSecurity Settings

The problem is I don’t have a box or button labeled Remove Security

I only have boxes to place the password, then verify the password, then password hint and last

Save Security Settings

I already updated the WD Security software so it is current. I also don’t have any options under the WD Smartware either. Please help

Thank you

I think I had a similar problem with my My Passport - no button to “Remove Security”.  What I did was to set a password in the dialogue box you posted, saved the new settings, then went back into the security dialogue and there was a Remove Security button which I clicked, then saved settings.

Might be worth a try?

FWIW I still can’t connect my MP drive to my Ubuntu laptop, but that’s probably a different issue!
