Restoring files to a new machine

I just bought a 2TB My Book for the express (initial) purpose of backing up the files on a laptop I’m returning to the vendor. I have received the new laptop, and want to know the best and fastest way to restore everything to the old machine as it was in the new. I have installed a lot of software, created a lot of work files, etc. and would like to get the new machine functioning like the old one with a minimum of down time.

This question has probably been raised before, but the few searches I’ve done have returned no useful results. Any assistance would be most appreciated as I have a short time before I must return the old machine to the vendor.

Thanks.

The Smartware backup program that came with you My book will backup only your files but not your programs, for what you would like to do you can use WIndows Backup.

Chk the steps bellow if it helps

Get some free backup software like Paragon, EaseUS, or Macrium. You would have to make a disk image. I don’t know what restoring that image would do to your Windows validation. The validation is likely tied to the physical computer and not transferable even if they are identical.
