Resume option doesnt work after power cut

I have a 3rd gen WD Tv live and continue to experience irrittating hassles like endless media library compilation, very slow navigation, unusable photo slideshows, etc. I am on the latest firmware and use a Harmony 650 to control multiple devices. One fairly major problem I have encountered is the below:

Scenario 1: A movie is being streamed to WD TV from my 3TB Mycloud NAS. I press stop and shut down all the components (TV, WDTv, AVR) using the Harmony 650 universal remote. Later on, I switch on all components. The resume function in WDTV works perfectly when I go back to the previously watched movie.

Scenario 2: A movie is being streamed to WD TV. There is a power cut (I live in India and this is fairly common in summer/monsoon months) and my inverter kicks in. I press stop and shut down all the components (TV, WDTv, AVR). After say an hour, the power comes on. The WD TV switches on by itself and restarts compiling the media library from the beginning. When I go to the previously watched movie, theres no resume option. So essentially, everytime theres a powecut and the mains come on, i lose the resume option. Added to this is the extremely sluggish navigation of 700 odd movies, presumably due to the media library compilation which takes ages.

Questions:

  1. Is there a workaround to retain the resume function as scenario 2 is fairly common?

  2. Will turning off the media library help? Will this also disable the resume option?

  3. Will waiting for the media library compilation to end (impractical as this might extend upto 1 hour) restore the resume bookmarks for watched movies?

While I am happy this box streams virtually anything, I must say there are a lot of rough edges to the overall user experience.

Though you don’t mention it, I assume the Cloud NAS is also UPS protected?  If not, that’s the problem.

  1. Yes, turning off the media library will disable stored resume points.  (They’ll stay in memory on the WD, but that won’t help you.)

  2.  I don’t understand why it’d take up to an hour to reload the media library for only 700 videos.  I have almost 4000 videos, and powering up only takes a few minutes.

Thanks for your reply. The NAS (a Mycloud 3TB) runs uninterrupted on UPS and does not switch off and switch on when theres a power cut or when power switchover to mains happens. I however seem to have got a fix now. Earlier, the WD TV Live was connected to a power strip in turn connected to a voltage stabilizer. The delay when the power came on was with the stabilizer which has now been bypassed. When the mains switchover happens after a power cut ends, the WD TV doesnt start by itself, which seemed to be the root cause of the resume playback option.
