Safepoint Issue

I am not able to create a safepoint.  I have the 2TB WD My Cloud.  There is 1.8TB free.  I have my Lightroom photos and iPhoto library on the drive.  When I connect a 1TB external drive and try to do the safe point, I see this error:

  • Failed request received during this safepoint operation. (402002)

Any ideas on this issue

Make sure that when you unplug your USB drive from the NAS, you use the eject button in the NAS admin UI. Not doing so will corrupt the file system on your disk, and make the safepoint fail.

run chkdsk :X /F on a Windows computer with X: being the partitions on your USB drive attached to teh computer directly.

Delete the safepoint from the NAS admin.

Plug the disk back in the back of the NAS

Recreate a safepoint.

Thanks for the response. I tried this.  Ejected the disk, ran disk utility on it, reformatted as ExFat, plugged back in and got the same error message when trying to create a SafePoint.  I hope I can get this working since this is the reason I purchased the WD.

ExFAT has never been supported…

Thanks @tony

What is the best format for the disk to create a safepoint?  OSX Extended?

I would go with FAT32 or NTFS for maximum compatibility.

Thanks, etupes.  I will reformat as NTFS and give it a shot later today.

NTFS is the way to go. Have never had any safepoint issues in over a year.

Tried NTFS and this is still a no-go.  Could it be related to the content?  I have my Lightroom photos and iPhoto library on there.  If so, I will probably need to return this and get a higher priced NAS

Content has nothing to do with a safepoint backup. Mycloud uses rsync for backup.

So, is the issue my backup drive?  I am using the MATSUNICHI PORTABLE HARD DRIVE - 1TB / BLACK

Try this:

  • put the disk in a computer,

  • launch an adminstrator command prompt (run cmd)

  • DISKPART

  • LIST DISK

  • SELECT DISK X where X is the number corresponding to your USB drive

  • CLEAN (don’t select the wrong drive!)

  • EXIT

Use Windows disk management to create a generic volume on the USB drive

Format NTFS and try again

If you have another drive, try with it, so that we know whether this is a drive thing or not

Or, you can just connect the external drive to a windows pc, go to computer management >> disk management, find the external drive, right-click on the volume and delete it.  Then, right-click again and create a new volume (partition) and format it NTFS.

Did all of this and still a no go.  I am trying this on a different hard drive.  So far it cannot find the partition, just the drive at the SnapPoint.

Is there a list of compatible drives to plugin to the MyCloud?  I just want this to work.

I’ve never heard of a Matsunichi drive.  So, it’s entirely possible that it isn’t compatible with the My Cloud.  Also, on the other drive that you’re trying, what do you mean that you can’t see the partition, only just the drive at the “SnapPoint”?  Did you mean Safepoint?  If Safepoint sees the drive, then it should back up to it.  You won’t see the partition from within the dashboard just the drive.

Also, if you are using older external drives, make sure that they have the latest firmware updates - if they have updates available.

It sees the drive at the safepoint, but it continously looks for the partition and never finds it.  At this point I just want to get a drive that is supported.
