wd cannot access my shared folders it says - This network share cannot be accessed.
With my ubuntu computer I’m mounting a remote shared folder from the samba server without any problem with the same credentials I use on wd.
Now I start a second samba server 3.4.0 on my ubuntu computer and open a share with the mounted content from the first server. Now wd is able to access this share!
Still not clear if this is a server configuration issue or some patches are needed for older samba servers. I’ll try to find out
I’ve just tested 1.04.10 firmware with the network shares of the netgear wndr3700 router. I have no idea what samba version they have but the effect is like wd shows couple of frames per second on any movie. One more difference is that netgear has 1Gbit ethernet instead on 100Mbit on my older samba server
After reconfig of my samba server (3.5.6) password protected shares are working.
I added “security = user” to the global section of smb.conf and “valid users = USERNAME” to the shares.
But I still have problems with network streaming (stuttering movies).
ok the samba related problem can be formulated as follow: WD TV device fails to access password protected network share if samba server is configured with ‘security = share’
I’m running Samba 3.4.3. All my computers/devices can see and use my shares except the WD Live. It doesn’t even list them. It does see my network printer (which I didn’t realise had a share).

network printer share is by default activated in the /etc/samba/smb.conf. So you say that all your password protected shares aren’t working?
