Sharespace constantly loses connection, become unaccessible - it's unusable!

After telling all my colleagues about how wonderful my 4TB Sharespace was, I am now on the verge of telling them not to touch one with a bargpole.  I would return mine, but can’t, for various reasons.

I have a WDTV Live, a MacBook and a Windows XP laptop connecting to the pre-configured Publis shares.

Every so often, one or all of the devices is no longer able to access the Public shares.  It’s absolutely infuriating. At the same time, access to the web page usually stops as well.  I can often still ssh in or ftp, but that’s of little use to me…

It’s running the latest firmware, applied via the web gui.

After rebooting the device by pulling the plug, as not othe rmethod seems to work, sometimes the XP laptop will be able to connect straightaway, sometimes not.  Usually the MacBook will only connect after its is rebooted.  The WDTV live will randomly connect, or not, as the case may be.  Even if things work, after a period of time, hours or minutes,  everything stops again.

I may be reading things wrongly, but after restarting, it looks as though the Public shares are not made avaialble again - they appear with a red cross next to them.

The laptops and WDTV are connecting as admin at the moment.  The same problems occurs when logging in as admin or as guest.

I read something somewhere about TwonkyVision causing problems.  I’ve not worked out how to disable it, but I have changed its settings so that it doesn’t scan any drives.

My route is an Apple Aiport Extreme.

I have my older setup running with no problems - a Linksys NSLU2 with two USB drives attached.  This set up has worked fine for months now.

This is driving me insane - any tips on how to get this thing working as advertised?  At the moment it simply an expensive doorstop.

I’ve been a happy user of WD’s older WDTV model and of their usb drives for a while with no problems, hence my going for this NAS box.  This is ruining WD’s reputation, in my eyes and I can recommend this product to anyone else, until it works properly.

The exact same thing is happening to me, and my feelings are the same about the quality of the product and the rep of the company.

Hoping to hear a solution back here.  I have also updated firmware which did not help.

Dave

I am having the same issue, since upgrading FW to the latest. I have had nothing but issues since getting this. I’m getting very frustrated.

I’m running a 4TB ShareSpace, Airport Extreme, iMac, MacBook Pro.

Any help would be great.
