Should i update to firmware 3.0.28

I updated my firmware to 3.01.19 a few weeks ago&like most i had lots of problems,so had to roll back to earlyer one.Now ive noticed you can update to a 3.0.28 version on the roll back site.Has any one tryed this update?.If you have&is working ok,please let me no.thank you

You can make up your own mind by reading the thread below. That firmware is old, but probably newer than what you are using.

What problems are you having with the new firmware?

From everything I have read concerning this firmware update I would say, for me,  the answer to this forum question is a resounding NO!.  In reality, it depends on your configuration and what you care about.  So, read lots of posts before doing anything.  My recommendation would be to first make sure you have configured a USB thumb drive with your current firmware release and understand how to roll back to iit if necessary.  I do appreciate all the hard work from you beta-testers (um… customers) though.

I am astonished that after several firmware releases and constant customer feedback that WD is still severely breaking features for this device that are actually in their advertisements.  I long ago turned off firmware updating and have been stuck at 2.07.17.  Thank goodness I didn’t upgrade to this one since it apparently switches the box to HDMI output and the only way to get out of that is to connect the box to an HDMI set so that you can see the configuraiton screens.  It is reported that it keeps doing this for every reset power off/on so you can’t fix it somewhere else and bring it back.  I have this connected to a Component set and don’t have a 75 foot HDMI cable to reach to the only HDMI set in the house.  Not to mention that the reason I bought this thing in the first place was because it supported Component (and that is in all advertisements for this device and on the box).  What caused me to stop updating the firmware was when they broke the thumbnail view across the bottom of the screen when scrolling through the movie listing.  I wanted that so reverted back to a firmware release that it still worked in and apparently they have been unable to fix it ever since.

I can only guess from what I see that the software staff for this product are practicing what I refer to a FRAGILE development.  Or, an alternate form of AGILE development where you have about 6 managers supervising the same tasks and the developers are constantly spending all their time in SCRUM meetings, point sessions, planning sessions, various other meetings and are filling out status for the same work in 4 or more locations.  No doubt the developers are also the front line help desk, writing all the documentation, supporting their own development environment, scrounging for the resources they need to work, dealing with endless red tape,  etc. etc. etc.   Guess how I know this?

Each to his own I guess and you can always rollback if you don’t like it. I have been extremely happy with 3.01.19, find it stable and has a lot of features that now that I have been playing with I’d be unhappy without.

Seems like for every user who has major issues with a FW release, there’s another who loves it. To me that makes the upgrade always worth trying, and being prepared to rollback if it doesn’t work out. If you make your decision based on other peoples experience, you may miss out on something that would have worked well for you. Just seems like every user has different needs and different experiences with the upgrades. Pretty odd though.

good luck and  like jbsumn said, have a USB drive with your current rev. ready to go.
