Slow Upload Speeds

Hi Everyone!

I’m new to the forum, but have been using my My Cloud 2TB for more than a year. My issue/question however has to do with the actual cloud service that accompanies it. I have long been troubled by the data transfer rates when accessing the wdmycloud.com site. I’m on the move a lot, and have 1TB My Passport Ultra with me for local backups but like to move decently large files, 500mb to 1gb onto MyCloud while on the go.

Every time I attempt this I get atrocious upload speeds (avg. 100kb/s, max 250 kb/s) which means these transfers take forever. I have tried a lot of different methods from using SSH, the website and even the old WD My Cloud Desktop App. Has anyone found a faster way to upload remotely?

At this point, I think it might be a server issue but I really have a hard time believing their servers would have such a weak internet connection.

Just an FYI, my currently internet speed is 300mb/s down, 350mb/s up (I don’t think it is an issue, but I still have this issue)

Hi,

Can you confirm if there’s any other application using your My Cloud?

Also, I see you have 300mb/s download and 350mb/s upload internet speed which is not normal since download speed is always faster than upload speed. Otherwise, you would have an issue. Can you please double-check this information.

You may have good, symmetric data rates at home, but that’s only one end of the connection; you need to determine the up/download rates you ae achieving at the remote location. e.g. if you’re accessing via someones wifi hotspot, in a cafe, you will be reliant on their up and downlink rates. These could be anything, and may be the bottleneck.

Likewise, if you’re using a mobile data connection, it will depend on whether you’re getting a 2.5G, 3G or 4G data link, and the signal strength and network congestion.

One other issue is whether your MyCloud has its Cloud Access connected in Port Forwarding mode, or Relay mode; in the latter modem all data passes through WD servers, which may pose a bottleneck.
